Chief Operating Officer - Horticulture

Our client, a leading horticultural exporter, is looking to build on their current successful track record of growth and are looking to hire a suitably qualified and experienced Chief Operating Officer to be responsible for all operations and technical functions. This role is critical to the organisation as it serves diverse markets worldwide, including Asia, Middle East, Europe and North America. 

Reporting to the board, this position is a key leadership role helping to build a profitable and sustainable business.  You will be expected to bring people leadership, operational and financial expertise and apply critical thinking and strong business acumen to help in the continued grow of the organisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Excellence

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the, IT, airfreight, procurement and technical teams.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across all functional areas to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Reporting operational performance of the business to the CEO.

Stakeholder Management

  • Developing a procurement strategy that builds long term symbiotic supplier relationships.
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with an array of stakeholders and partners to foster a resilient and reliable supply chain.

People Leadership

  • Creating an enabling work environment and positive company culture that generates a winning attitude.
  • Measuring performance of departments, products and services and recommend improvement strategies.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics and KPIs, regularly analysing and reporting on business performance to the CEO and the board of directors.
  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Compliance and Regulatory Affairs

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, and promote a culture of ethics, integrity, and safety throughout the organisation.
  • Establish and enforce quality control measures to maintain the freshness and quality throughout the supply chain.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required by the business.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience as a General Manager or in a similar executive leadership role, preferably in the [industry/sector that is now ready for the next step in their career.
  • Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering operational improvements and achieving revenue targets.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others towards achieving common goals.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders at all levels.

*This role would require some level of out-of-town travel.
