Commercial Manager - Arable & Plantations

Our client, a well-respected agricultural testing laboratory and agronomy advisory services company, is seeking a Commercial Manager for their Large Scale Arable and Plantations Division.

The role holder will be based in Nairobi and will focus on driving growth in the arable, plantation, and fertilizer sectors across East Africa. The focus is on large scale farming in the following value chains: Arable – maize, wheat, barley, rice, potato and Plantations – coffee, tea, sugarcane, macadamia.

The successful candidate will hold a strategic role in the company’s operations and directly report to the Group Chief Commercial Officer. This role will require extensive travel across East Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda).

Key Aims & Objectives:

  • Grow revenues for our independent agri service portfolio within the arable, plantations and fertilizer sector; services include soil and plant analysis, agronomy advice, and the latest precision farming services.
  • Develop and execute an aggressive go-to-market strategy.
  • Work closely with the Technical Sales/Agronomy team to unlock new business.
  • Growing revenues for commercial operator out-grower schemes.
  • Developing and managing a high-impact key account management plan.
  • Responsible for all contracting and proposal documentation related to client acquisition and retention, including SLAs, Partnership and agency agreements, sales presentations.
  • Continuous refinement of our product portfolio and value proposition.
  • Responsibility for developing marketing activities/campaigns to develop the company.
  • brand within the arable, plantation, and fertilizer sectors across East Africa.
  • Take responsibility for managing the sector sales pipeline using CRM.

Key Requirements:

  • Ideally > ten years’ experience in commercial sales and marketing in East Africa, with solid experience in the arable & plantations and/or fertilizer supplier sector (e.g., FAK).
  • In-depth knowledge and successful track record in executing commercial sales strategy in a related agri sector in Africa.
  • Excellent team leadership and coaching skills, as well as organizational development.
  • Comfortable in a high-growth and changeable environment.
  • Passion for soil health, agronomy, and regenerative farming would be a significant advantage.
